Doval's long video call with the Chinese foreign minister finally made the troop retreat process possible .

Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councilor Wang Ir's video call with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval lasted about two hours on Sunday.  And its "consequence" has been the success of the troop retreat process in easing tensions in the Galwan Valley and the Gogra Hot Springs.  A statement from the Foreign Ministry on Monday said, "The meeting has reached two decisions.  Finding a solution based on the consensus of the leadership of the two countries and not allowing differences to turn into debates. "

"As special envoys,  Doval and Wang discussed in depth and openly the progress of the western sector (which includes the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh)," the foreign ministry said in a statement.  Beijing has also spoken of positive progress.  A statement from China's Foreign Ministry said on Monday that "progressive forces have taken effective steps to reduce tensions and engage in disengagement."

The Chinese foreign minister accepted Doval's offer to withdraw troops one kilometer from the June 15 clash site in the Galwan Valley, according to a statement from the Indian foreign ministry.  The process of 'disengagement' of the two soldiers in the 'eye-to-eye' position has started following that direction.  At the Ajit Doval-Wang Yi meeting, the two agreed to show respect for the Line of Actual Control (LAC) (not to violate it), maintain peace and stability and not take unilateral action.

In May, Chinese troops crossed various LACs in eastern Ladakh.  The division commander level meeting has not been disrupted more than once.  At a corps commander-level meeting on June 8, it was decided to withdraw troops to reduce tensions.  But while it was in effect, the two sides became embroiled in a deadly clash at Galwan's Patrol Point-14.  Harendra Singh, commander of the 14th Corps deployed in Leh, and Liu Lin, commander of the People's Liberation Army's South Xinjiang Military District, held marathon meetings on June 22 and 30 in the Chinese-controlled Moldo near the Chusul border.  Discussions were also held between Foreign Minister Jayashankar and Wang.  But even then, various foreign satellite images showed "evidence" of Chinese military bases in Galwan and the gathering of vehicles and military equipment.

During Doklam's 'Stand Off' in 2016, Doval was accused of unnecessarily 'muscle bragging' and complicating matters.  It was claimed in various media reports that a solution was found due to the activities of the then Foreign Secretary S Jayashankar.  But this time the National Security Adviser was not seen in an aggressive role.  In the end, Doval's role in Galwan-Gogra paved the way for the army to retreat and defuse tensions, Foreign Minister Jayashankar's ministry acknowledged it on the day.
