After taking over as India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, In his first interview , Ambessador TS Tirumurti emphasised the key agenda and priorities of India at the world body. At a crucial time when India is set to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) he will serve as the Indian envoy after over a decade.
While speaking to the media , Ambassador Tirumurti was confident that India will be elected in the group of elite 15 by winning a two-thirds majority. He added that his focus will be to "strengthen the voice of those who are not heard".
It has been seen that the UNSC has been used against India by Pakistan with help from its all-weather friend China many times. In this regard the Indian envoy said that he will not look at India's presence in the Security Council purely through the "narrow prism of India-Pakistan bilateral issue". He also said, there were no takers for Pakistan's "false propaganda" and India's fight against "cross-border terrorism" and "terror financing" will continue.
