Police or ISI custody? Mystery surrounding the disappearance of two embassy staff in Islamabad

The disappearance of two Indian embassy staffers in Islamabad is still unclear.  According to a source in the Indian government, the two embassy staff are in the custody of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), a Pakistani spy agency.  Islamabad police have arrested the two men in connection with the hit-and-run incident.  But India has sent a strong message to those who remain in custody.  The officer-in-charge of the embassy in New Delhi (Charge d'Affaires) has also been summoned to ensure the safety and security of the two staff.

According to foreign ministry sources, two CISF personnel posted at the Indian embassy in Islamabad on Monday morning drove out of their office in a car.  But they did not reach their destination even after a few hours of the scheduled time.  Other embassy staff could not communicate with them after 8 am.  This leads to anxiety.  The news reached New Delhi too.  The activity begins.  The Foreign Ministry also contacted the Pak administration about this.  But as the day wore on, the situation took a turn for the worse.  According to foreign ministry sources, the two missing Indian embassy staffers are in the custody of Pakistan's ISI.

But other news was shown in Pak news media.  Islamabad police have arrested the two Indian embassy staffers in connection with a car accident, according to multiple media outlets, .  The accident was also reported on TV channels and online news outlets.  It said the two tried to flee by crushing a pedestrian while driving a BMW on Embassy Road around 8am that day.  But they angered the locals.  They arrested the two and informed the police.  The police went and took the two into custody.  According to media reports, local residents claimed that the two were driving recklessly.

Earlier, the foreign ministry had summoned the diplomat in charge of the Pakistani embassy in New Delhi.  He sent a message to Islamabad that the two workers should be returned to the embassy quickly and safely.  After the news of this accident came, the situation in New Delhi also took a new turn.  However, the possibility of being captured by the ISI has not been ruled out by New Delhi.

A few days ago, two staff members of the Pakistani embassy in New Delhi and two drivers were expelled for spying in the country.  They were accused of spying against India.  In the last few days, many people are getting another smell on the soil of Pakistan.  New Delhi has repeatedly accused Pakistan of spying on Indian embassy staff, despite having diplomatic safeguards.  New Delhi reported that the surveillance had intensified after the expulsion of two Pakistani embassy staff.  The disappearance of the two activists and the emergence of two theories have raised concerns among Indian diplomats.
